1. Introduction
Language is a method of human communication that is essential for everyday
interactions, allowing individuals to communicate, engage, and get information from others.
Language serves as a means of conveying one's emotions, ideas, thoughts, and fantasies. It
may be communicated orally or in writing form. Spoken language is a kind of
communication that is conveyed by spoken expression, often accompanied by intonation and
nonverbal cues. According to Khoerunnisa et.al (2023), Language serves as a means of
transmitting messages or a comprehensive understanding of meaning within the context of
social, political, and historical circumstances. Humans often make blunders while utilizing
language as a form of communication in their daily lives. Indeed, the inaccuracies may or
may not be recognized. A two-second silence while speech indicates a pause. Moreover, if
someone makes a mistake, such as mispronouncing words when speaking, it may be referred
to as a slip of the tongue. Psycholinguistic studies also examine speech mistakes, revealing
that language involves cognitive processes that are expressed via linguistic forms.
As stated by Nuriadi et.al (2016:162), figurative language refers to the use of verbal
words or expressions to explain or convey the intended meaning, concept, or message of a
speaker. Figurative language is used to enhance the structure of a phrase with the main
objective of achieving a certain impact, therefore creating an imaginative impression on the
listener or audience, whether by oral or written means. Every writer have a unique style
through which they articulate their literary concepts. The writing style of each article will be
affected by its respective author. Figurative language enhances and enlivens literary works,
elevating their quality and making them more vibrant.
Allowing to Gasma & Yunita (2017:77), A song is a fusion of a musical composition and
a human voice, which showcases the words. Furthermore, according to Becky in Adawiyah
& Ayatika (2017:86), using songs is a simple technique to capture children's attention and an
enjoyable approach to facilitate learning. The use of music media in English instruction for
young learners is anticipated to serve as a source of motivation for students in their English
language learning endeavors. The student will exhibit a heightened level of interest in
studying the English language. A lyric might have either an explicit or subliminal meaning.
The researcher is interested in doing research on songs as the subject of study. This
research aims to provide a description of figurative language, specifically in music, including
an analysis of the predominant forms of figurative language used. The present research
focuses on analyzing the metaphorical language used in song lyrics due to its high level of

attention, popularity, and familiarity throughout society. Comprehending the significance of
song lyrics may be challenging due to their use of implicit meanings and indirect
expressions. Researchers must evaluate the figurative language employed in the lyrics to
ascertain their intended meaning.
a. Analysis
Analysis is an attempt to observe something in detail. Bagaskara & Ristiania (2019:14),
state that analysis is a process of analyzing a specific piece of data from a variety of sources, as
well as analyzing the data it self and the data it contains, as well as analyzing the data among
the data in order to improve the quality of the data and the quality of meaning as a whole.
Analysis involves various tasks like understanding, distinguishing, categorizing, and
rearranging items based on specific criteria, followed by identifying connections and
interpreting their significance.
b. Linguistic
According Nafinuddin (2020) states that linguistics is can be seen as the study of meaning,
one of the three levels of language analysis alongside phonology and grammar. It is recognized
as a linguistic field examining the connection between language signs and their referents,
essentially focusing on the meaning of language. Semantics, a branch of linguistics, is closely
linked to disciplines like sociology, anthropology, philosophy, and psychology.
c. Figurative Language
As stated by Risdianto F (2011:33), figurative language refers to the use of language that
directly compares unlike things using metaphors and similes. Figures of speech convey
nuances of meaning that are not easily conveyed in any other manner, they communicate
nuances of meaning that can be communicated precisely in any other manner, they
communicate a lot in a more concise timeframe than would otherwise be possible, and they are
instantaneous as they encapsulate meaning in visual language rather than expressing it in a
detached manner.
d. Types of Figurative Language
As stated by James [2014;212], Figurative language is a language style in which words or
phrases are used that deviate from their literal meaning. It usually accomplishes the goal of
explanation. Details, fabrication or modification, and manipulation. Figurative language is
language that uses a variety of speech figures. Personification and idiom are examples of
figurative language types. Take a look at these explanations for further clarity.

including a range of phases, from overarching assumptions to specific ways of collecting,
analyzing, and interpreting data. The researcher used a descriptive research technique with a
qualitative approach. Descriptive research is a kind of writing that provides a detailed
description of the current situation based on direct research. The data acquired in this type of
research is qualitative in nature, derived from sources such as manuscripts, interviews, field
notes, personal papers, memo notes, and other relevant materials. The qualitative technique is
an approach that emphasizes thorough observation and analysis. Hence, the use of qualitative
methodologies in research might provide a more exhaustive investigation of a topic. Qualitative

existing phenomenon about what has been experienced. The examples of qualitative data are
from interviews, research notes, observation data differentiated by category, customer
comment data on a product, and other data presented in writing.
