Pemanfaatan Lahan Sempit Menjadi Kebun Edukatif untuk Literasi Lingkungan di SD Muhammadiyah Abepura

Limited land in the school area is one of the obstacles faced by schools in the process of developing environment-based learning, especially in optimizing the environmental literacy of elementary school students. The community service activities carried out aim to increase the use of narrow land into educational gardens as a forum for contextual learning at SD Muhammadiyah Abepura, Jayapura City. The implementation method is to use a participatory approach through three main stages, namely the socialization stage, the planting practice stage, and the continuous monitoring stage. The activity was attended by 51 fifth grade students. In the results of the activity, students showed an increase in environmental literacy which was characterized by insight into the need to protect the environment, improved skills in planting practices, and the formation of an attitude of responsibility and cooperation between students. Land use that was previously not maximized in its use turned into an educational garden that has value and is productive. In addition, this activity has also been proven to increase the active role of students in the practice-based learning process. The conclusion of this activity is that the use of narrow land into educational gardens is an effective strategy in developing environmental literacy of elementary school students through participatory and real-experience learning methods. This program is also able to contribute to the success of sustainable development goals, especially in the aspects of quality education and environmental awareness.
